Sex Therapy Compassionate Support for Psychogenic Sexual Concerns We help address psychogenic sexual concerns in a safe, confidential environment for healing. Sex Therapy Compassionate Support for Psychogenic Sexual Concerns Sexual difficulties can deeply impact well-being and intimacy, and they’re more common than many realize. At our practice, we specialize in helping individuals and couples navigate psychogenic sexual issues—challenges that arise primarily from emotional, psychological, or relational factors. Our goal is to create a supportive, understanding environment to address these concerns, offering compassionate guidance and effective therapeutic approaches to help you regain confidence and connection. Intimacy issues we address Whether it’s a loss of desire, difficulty with arousal, or challenges reaching orgasm, sexual concerns affect everyone differently. Here are some common psychogenic sexual issues we can help you and your partner address: Lack or Loss of Sexual Desire: Reduced sexual interest or drive, often linked to stress, emotional concerns, or relationship challenges. Sexual Aversion and Lack of Enjoyment: A dislike or avoidance of sexual intimacy, or a struggle to feel enjoyment during sexual experiences. Orgasmic Difficulties: Delayed or absent orgasm, which may be situational (occurring in specific contexts) or persistent across situations. Erectile Dysfunction (ED): Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection, often psychogenic in origin when it occurs selectively (e.g., only in certain settings or relationships). Premature Ejaculation: Ejaculation occurring sooner than desired, which can stem from anxiety, stress, or other psychological concerns. Vaginismus: Involuntary spasms of the vaginal muscles, making penetration difficult or painful. This often has emotional or psychological roots, such as past pain or anxiety around intimacy. These concerns are not uncommon, and many individuals face them at different points in life. Each challenge can impact one’s self-confidence, intimate relationships, and emotional health. That’s why a supportive, tailored approach to treatment is essential. Things to consider about the therapy Sex therapy is a unique journey that helps couples rediscover intimacy and navigate challenges with empathy and understanding. While lasting progress takes commitment, patience, and a willingness to explore personal and relational dynamics, therapy offers a transformative space where partners can rebuild trust, intimacy, and a sense of partnership. Here are a few key considerations to keep in mind: Commitment to the Process: Change takes time. Be prepared to engage in multiple sessions for sustained growth. Openness to Reflection: Addressing sexual concerns often involves exploring personal and relational factors, which can lead to profound insights. Active Participation Outside of Therapy: Practicing skills and exercises between sessions helps reinforce progress. Our Approach Sex therapy at BetterUs addresses sexual difficulties that are rooted in emotional, psychological, or relational factors , not physical ones. Using CBT-based techniques and a structured couples approach, sessions are tailored to each couple's specific concerns and pace What to Expect in Therapy Initial Assessment In the first two to three sessions, we take time to understand your unique relationship dynamics, including each partner’s experiences and concerns. This assessment phase allows us to develop a personalized plan based on your shared goals for therapy, setting the foundation for a collaborative and effective journey. Open and Guided Conversations Our sessions facilitate open, respectful discussions where both partners can freely express their feelings and be truly heard. Through these guided conversations, we create a safe space for addressing sensitive topics, building empathy, and improving communication—all with the goal of helping you reconnect on a deeper level. Individual Check-Ins and Assessments In some cases, individual sessions may be recommended to explore each partner’s personal experiences in depth, helping us gain a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship dynamics. We may also suggest specific assessments, available at an additional cost, to further inform our approach. Each of these components is designed to foster a compassionate, non-judgmental environment that supports both of you on your journey toward a stronger, healthier relationship. We invite you to book a consultation to explore how our approach can best support your needs and help you experience the care and understanding we bring to our work with couples. Why Choose Us? With specialized training in psychogenic sexual issues, we bring an in-depth understanding of the complex connection between mind and body in sexual functioning. Our Approach Our approach to couples therapy is primarily based on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a well-researched method for helping couples strengthen their relationship. We also incorporate an eclectic mix of therapeutic techniques tailored to meet each couple’s unique needs, ensuring that our process is both effective and adaptable.
